The goals of the Azavea Open Source Fellowship Program match our company mission.
Azavea is a B Corporation that creates civic geospatial software and data analytics for the web. Our mission is to advance the state of the art in geospatial technology and apply it for civic, social, and environmental impact.
We are deeply committed to open source software and manage several large open source projects, including: GeoTrellis, DistrictBuilder, Raster Foundry, Model My Watershed, OpenDataPhilly, Open Transit Indicators, and many others. We also contribute to a number of open source projects we do not run, and value being contributing members of the open source community.
A fellowship for students and software developers with strong engineering skills that have an interest in working on open source geospatial technology projects.
We are participating in the Earth on AWS Fellowships and Internships Program. Through this program, our fellows have access to Earth on AWS resources like Landsat, Sentinel-2, Sentinel-1, NEXRAD, GOES-16, SpaceNet, NAIP, Terrain Tiles, MODIS, and GDELT.
Fellows work closely with experienced Azavea mentors to expand on software engineering and design skills while contributing to open source projects for 3 months during the summer. Applicants can either choose a project from the Proposed Projects list or submit their own project idea.
This paid fellowship program is open to full-time or part-time students, those transitioning careers, or professionals that want to expand their knowledge in open source and geospatial. You are required to be over 18 years old and have some experience with software development, either through schooling or through experience.
Azavea will not be running the Open Source Fellowship in Summer 2021. Sign up for notifications about future opportunities.
Sign up to receive email notifications for when we open next year’s fellowship session. Don’t worry, you’ll only hear from us if it’s about the Azavea open source fellowship
